Moving the Mouse Pointer (using head motions)

Move the Mouse Pointer by Gentle Head Motions

Moving the mouse pointer / cursor hands-free is easy with the Smyle Mouse head mouse.  Simply turn your head left/right or up/down naturally, to move the mouse pointer on the screen.  It is not necessary to move any part of your body below the neck.

If you find that the mouse pointer is too sensitive or not sufficiently sensitive to your head rotation, please adjust the Mouse Speed / Sensitivity in the Settings window > Pointing tab.  See Page 10 of the User Guide here.

Important Notes:

  1. The mouse pointer moves in relation to amount of head motion as well as the speed of head motion!  Therefore, for example, let’s say turning head by 10 degrees at a slow speed causes the mouse pointer moves by 100 pixels on the screen.  However, if you turn your head the same amount (10 degrees), but at a quicker pace, the mouse pointer may move 200, 300 or even more pixels on the screen, based on your speed of head motion.  This gives the user ability to move large distances on the screen, as well as fine tune on tiny targets on the screen using minimal head motion.
  2. Try to pushing the mouse pointer beyond any edge of the screen, allows the user bring the mouse pointer back through a much greater distance when the user starts turning their head in the reverse direction.  This technique greatly increases the range of mouse pointer motion despite limited range of head motion.
  3. Smyle Mouse also has the concept of Mouse Stickiness that further helps expand the range of mouse pointer motion on the screen, despite limited range of head motion.  See Page 11 of the User Guide here.

Being aware of the above behaviors, a user can traverse large distances on the screen without straining their neck, as well as despite limited range of head motion.

Please also see additional details of adjusting mouse pointer motion behavior in the following tutorial here.
